Chuck founded Chuck Miller Consulting LLC and Chuck Miller Education Services LLC in 2017 after retiring as President and CEO of Chuck Miller Construction Inc. Having observed many of his fellow builders and remodelers struggle and fail during his career, Chuck wrote “Plan To Profit: Business Planning for Builders and Remodelers” in the hope that he could help small construction companies survive and thrive.
Chuck Miller is an active member and Senior Life Delegate of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and his state and local affiliated associations.
Chuck has earned eleven professional designations from the National Association of Home Builders.

Chuck works one-on-one with builders, remodelers, trade contractors and other small construction companies to develop a working business plan focused on market research and analysis, product development and pricing strategy, sales and marketing strategy, operations planning, and financial forecasting and budgeting to achieve and maintain key financial and operating ratios. He also coaches them-serving as an accountability partner after helping them develop their business plan to insure they are implementing it, and consulting with them on as needed basis when they need advice on how to address new challenges.
Construction Industry Experience
Chuck began his construction career in 1968 as an apprentice carpenter. He became a journeyman carpenter in 1972, worked his way through college, and graduated from Western Illinois University where he majored in Construction Technology and minored in accounting, business management, and real estate. He has been involved in the design and construction of single and multi-family residential, commercial, and institutional projects across the United States.
After graduating, Chuck went to work for Carney General Contractors, a general contractor specializing in government projects. He was a Site Engineer, Quality Control Representative, and Superintendent on a number of projects. He was responsible for onsite contract administration, payroll, cost control, scheduling, and quality assurance inspections.
In 1975, Chuck went to work for Morrison-Knudsen Company, Inc. (M-K), an international general contractor. He was a Project Engineer responsible for estimating, purchasing, budgeting and cost control, scheduling, contract administration, subcontract administration, and change order management. Projects including several military housing projects, the Day lodge at Timberline on Mount Hood, Oregon, a medium security prison, and the rehabilitation of mid and high-rise apartment building in the largest cooperative housing development in the world.
Chuck left M-K in 1985 and went to work as a Project Engineer for Hunt Building Corporation, the largest design-build builder of military housing projects in the United States. His project assignments included on a number of private apartment complexes and military housing projects.
He left Hunt Building Corporation in 1989 and settled in Boise, Idaho. There he managed several small building companies. As the Builder and manager, he was responsible for general management, estimating, purchasing, budgeting and cost control, development of specifications, scheduling, subcontract administration, contract preparation and administration, customer relations, oversight of field operations, and management of warranty service for multiple custom home and light commercial projects.
He founded Chuck Miller Construction Inc. in 2001. Chuck Miller Construction was a nationally recognized design-buid residential and commercial builder / remodeler, a member of the Building Science Consortium Team under the original Building America Program, a 100% Energy Star Partner, and a PATH Partner. Chuck participated in an advisory capacity at the initial meeting and on working groups to develop the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Building American Challenge Voluntary Home Energy Performance Initiative and was an initial member of the Builders Challenge which kicked off at the 2008 International Builders Show. He was also a subject matter expert on the original NAHB “Green Building for Building Professional” course and an approved instructor of that course.

Chuck retired as President and CEO of Chuck Miller Construction in 2017.
